We would like to invite you to submit papers for the IGU Commission „Dynamic of Economic Spaces“  2018 Mini-Conference on “Rural-Urban Linkages for Sustainable Development: An Economic Geography Perspective which will be held  in Innsbruck, Austria during 19-21 July, 2018.

Call for papers is now open and abstracts of maximum 250 words will be accepted. Abstract submission closes on 30 March 2018. Fernando Ruiz Peyré, ehemalige ÖAD-Stipendiat, wurde vom Alumni AudioLab interviewt.

Alumni AudioLab ist eine monatliche Podcastreihe, in der Alumni des OeAD über sich und ihre Forschung erzählen. Der OeAD vereint Wissenschaftler/innen aus der ganzen Welt und aus unterschiedlichsten Forschungsrichtungen, die einen Teil ihrer wissenschaftlichen Laufbahn in Österreich verbracht haben – manche sind sogar geblieben. Im Alumni AudioLab erzählen sie ihre Geschichten, ihre wissenschaftlichen Ambitionen, ihre Motivation und ihre persönlichen Hintergründe.

AGEF goes Indonesia: Understanding SDGs in a South-North-South context

Understanding cultural contexts of SDG implementations was at the core of two AGEF projects, financed by ASEA UNINET. In close cooperation with the Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta and the Sebelas Maret University in Surakarta, local-regional implications of Sustainable Development Goals 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 15 (Life on Land) have been analysed and put in a South-North-South (South America – Europe – Indonesia) comparison.

Two new Doctors in the AGEF

In the last two weeks Jutta Kister and Michael Klingler finished their dissertations! Congratulations to the new Doctors in Geography!

On November 20, Jutta Kister successfully defended her PhD-thesis on
“Globale Wertschöpfungsketten im Fairen Handel”. And on November 28, Michael Klingler presented his results on his topic “Zero Deforestation – Sozial-ökologische Transformation der Frontier Amazonien”.

AGEF goes Brasilien: Winter School zum Thema Regionalentwicklung

 

Neue theoretische und methodische Ansätze standen im Vordergrund der gemeinsam organisierten Winter School an der UNISC in Santa Cruz do Sul/RS, Brasilien. Die Professoren Martin Coy und Markus Schermer, wie auch Carine Pachoud und Christoph Huber nahmen hierbei aktiv Teil. Continue reading
